Dave’s Desk,

Happy Wednesday!   Yes it is a bit hazy out there and maybe a bit warm for you but we have AIR CONDITIONING and the filters are working overtime to make the air clean too. Join us this Friday Night.

A Celebration

As I’m writing this letter I realized that today is the anniversary of my 30th year of teaching dance. Way back in 1988 I started teaching my first dance classes in Jitterbug & Foxtrot at the Queen Anne Community Center. I held my dances at the Ballard Oddfellows Hall. Then I started expanding to dozens of locations all across the Puget Sound area from Enumclaw to Kirkland and as far away as Bellingham at Western Washington University. Eventually I found The Barn and here we are today. I’ll bring some dessert Friday night to celebrate.

This Friday

This Friday we are having our Class Party & Potluck Dance. We just finished a 6-week series of classes and have some new students coming to tryout their newly acquired dance skills. Join us for a fun night with a Dance Lesson in LINDY HOP (Granddaddy of Swing Dancing), Potluck, Raffle Drawings, Door Prize Drawings. Mini-dance lesson and a Dance Mixer. No partners required. Please bring a potluck item to share. We won’t need any desserts. I will bring something to celebrate my teaching anniversary.

Upcoming Dance Classes

Our next series of Group Dance classes is starting right after Labor Day. We have already had lots of NEW students registering over the last couple weeks. It’s exciting to see that more people are hearing about us and finding us on the web and by word-of-mouth. Thank you all for telling others about the fun we provide here. Be sure YOU register early too so you can get the early discount and reserve your spot in the classes you want to take. It is possible that we will hit the maximum size of a class and you can’t join. The reverse can also happen where people procrastinate and we cancel a class. Then they walk in on the night of the class and are disappointed. So again, please register early. If you are coming without a partner we definitely need your early registration so we can attempt to balance the classes for leads and follows.

NEW CLASSES

Turns, Spins, Technique & Role Reversal (September) NEW

This 5-week series, taught by Debbie Cook, is for everyone. Leads & Follows and Men & Women can benefit from learning how to turn better and work on their technique. The other part of the class is called Role Reversal. This is where leads learn by following and the follows learn by leading. It is a big help for lots of dancers and it’s fun too. Class size will be limited so register early to reserve your spot. Tuesdays 6:30pm.

Cha-cha (September) NEW

This 5-week series of Cha-cha is a beginner level class taught by Debbie Cook. Cha-cha is a fun and versatile dance that goes to many genres of music. Learn how to lead or follow along with the footwork, rhythm and turns. Tuesdays at 7:30pm. Join us this Friday for a preview of Cha-cha with Debbie as she teaches the pre-dance lesson at 7pm.

Turning & Traveling Waltz (September) NEW

This is a new class taught by Dave Serfling. Learn how to travel and turn in Waltz. It is a beginner class but even experienced Waltz dancers can learn a few new moves from this class including Tandem Turns and a peek into Cross-step Waltz. This class is a blend of different Waltz styles meant to give you a nice repertoire of Waltz turns. Tuesdays 8:30pm.

Line Dancing • Learn, Review & Practice (September) NEW

Just like it says for two hours you get Line Dancing. Starting off with an Improver level lesson each Sunday at 1pm. Then we review some dances and then we practice them with music. Four-Sundays-a-month. You can drop-in or save by registering for the month. Instr. Dave Serfling
