John L. Halloran of Kenmore, Washington, passed away on May 10, 2021, after 83 years of an active and fun life. John was born March 26, 1938 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Katherine and Lionel Halloran.
John, or Dr. John, as we called him was a constant regular at the Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He attended mostly line dance and pattern round dance classes and came Every Friday Night to our dances with his wife Darcy. But most importantly for me (Dave), he was a mentor and a huge help with making improvements to The Barn. He would be here all day helping me, sometimes for weeks working with me on a project. I’m looking forward to being retired someday when I can pay it forward.
John was also great with my kids. He always had Double Bubble gum in a pocket or in his van and he loved to play with them. He loved children and you could tell when he got his granddaughters. He loved spending time with them. He also helped his son and daughter with their houses and properties.
I have to say I was lucky to have all those learning moments with him. He was a very giving person. He volunteered his time and talents for many things and to many people. I am grateful for his generosity and friendship.

John grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School, where he was an Eagle Scout and Senior Class President. He went on to study at the University of Michigan where swam competitively and graduated with a BS in Mathematics and a Doctor in Medicine. At the University of Michigan, he met and married the love of his life, his wife of over 56 years, Darcy (Harwood) Halloran.
Following medical school, John interned at Virginia Mason in Seattle and then served as a Captain in the US Army stationed for a year in Vietnam and then a year at Fort Lewis, Washington. Following his Army service, John completed a residency in Dermatology at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio.
John and Darcy then moved back to Washington State, to the mountains and waters they missed, where John established his dermatology practice at Evergreen Medical and Dental Center in Kirkland, WA and bought their home on Lake Washington. During his life John was an active skier, windsurfer, Hobiecat sailor, scuba diver and traveler who enjoyed time at Lake Washington, the Columbia River Gorge, Grand Targhee, Maui, and the Caribbean. He was also an engaged father, helpful neighbor, good friend, caring doctor, and thoughtful teacher (he volunteered regularly at the University of Washington Dermatology Program earning the title of Professor Emeritus).
John is survived by his wife Darcy, kids Martsi (Halloran) Stuart and Ray Halloran, their spouses Trevor and Camille, and three beloved granddaughters, Caley, Teagan, and Charlotte, and his sister Mary (Halloran) DeYoung.
